According to the Wall Street Journal, the values system Soldiers have is a valuable commodity in the workplace. Specifically, companies like Chesapeake Energy Corp. want to hire Soldiers because of the values, ethics, and character we bring to the table.
Our Army Values may seem like a trite anachronism of a bygone era to some, but reality tells us that society is hungry for people with these same values.
Be a man or woman of character...live out your values...encourage others to do the same. We all benefit.
From the WSJ article: "Natural-gas and oil producer Chesapeake Energy Corp., meanwhile, sees the military as a good breeding ground for tech talent. The Oklahoma City-based company seeks out military veterans "for their character, values and ethics, not necessarily industry-related experience," says Martha Burger, senior vice president, human and corporate resources. Chesapeake hires veterans as drilling and reservoir engineers, facilities engineers and business analysts, and provides them with extensive training."
ReplyDeleteSo, one company says it likes military personnel for their "tech talent" and their "character, ethics, and values," and some how you translate this as a repudiation of a strawman you constructed? Who are these "some" who consider the military values to be a trite anachronism? You're supposedly a PAO, so who's the source for the sentiment you cite?
Fair enough...but because my blog has a lot to do with my opinion and is more conversational, I rely on my own experience and interactions to form my ideas.
ReplyDeleteI ran across this article, and it supported something I had only previously knew about through my own experience. I believe people who exhibit a strong sense of values are valuable to businesses as employees. This article seems to support that opinion, thus I thought I would comment on it.
It's good to know at someone out there sees Soldiers as valuable because of their ethics, character, and values, and makes it a point to hire them because of it.
